Activity Director: Derek Downey
The Activity Director is the glue of the unit, and must keep the compost living and thriving at all costs. Responsibilities range from keeping the compost mobile running to helping with compost workshops. This position requires a wide range of skills from wood-working, to use of tractor equipment, word processing, vehicle maintenance, compost maintenance, and keeping general groove extra-funky. The Activity Director is responsible for hiring a staff and recruiting interns and volunteers to the good word of compost. The Operations Director must work closely with the The Activity Director. The Activity Directot must maintain a strong relationship with the Coffee House, Sodexho U$A, City of Davis, Environmental Health and Safety, R4 Recycling, EPPC, Student Farms, and Whole Earth Festival.
Operations Director: Ben Miller
The main focus of the position is to monitor and manage the compost site at the Student Farm, direct and help further construct the campus compost demonstration sites, and coordinate compost clean-ups and compost turnings with the Student Farm. This involves either visiting the serene piles 3 times a week (MWF), or coordinating with the Activity Director to make sure that the piles and the surrounding area are regularly checked on. The Compost Operations Director is responsible for turning and frontloading compost with the tractors, training is provided by the Agricultural Technician at the Student Farm, or by seasoned P.C. staff. The position also involves working with Education and Outreach Director and Office Director to make sure the Education side of compost is just as steamy as the Action side of things.
Education and Outreach Director: Dori Stone
The Education and Outreach Director spreads the good word of compost to the students and staff of UC Davis as well as the surrounding community. Activities include giving worm and backyard composting workshops, dorm presentations, pamphlet distribution, and setting up a variety of student related composting activities around campus. There is no need for previous compost experience, just a willingness to learn about that steamy Black Gold we call compost. Training is provided via hands on experience and background reading materials. Campus compost pickups are also part of the weekly responsibilities. Job position is open to new ideas and passionate outreach techniques.
Office Director: Jesse Davis
The Office Director is responsible for managing the Project Compost Office by making sure the it is a clean, comfortable space to work. Duties range from collaborating with the Education and Outreach Director to keeping tonnages of every inch of organic matter that we compost. The Office Director also keeps the Project Compost website fresh and flourishing, and works with AS GRAPHICS to make appropriate outreach materials. Last but not least, the Office Director helps to create bumpin’ compost workshops along with the EOD.
